Getting to Snowbird Oktoberfest: Traffic, Parking & Free Shuttle Guide

Oktoberfest at Snowbird draws thousands of visitors to Little Cottonwood Canyon each weekend. 

Whether you plan to drive or ride Snowbird’s free shuttle, a little preparation can help you spend less time in traffic and more time enjoying your day.

Expect Significant Travel Delays

Oktoberfest weekends are among the busiest times of the year in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Visitors should expect travel delays, particularly during the late morning and early afternoon as people arrive for the festival, and again in the late afternoon and evening as they head home.

Travel times can vary significantly depending on the time of day and visitor demand. If your schedule allows, consider arriving earlier or staying later to help avoid the busiest travel periods.

Skip the Parking Search with Snowbird’s Free Shuttle

One of the most effective ways to avoid driving in traffic and searching for parking is to use Snowbird’s free Oktoberfest shuttle.

Snowbird operates a free shuttle service on Oktoberfest weekends between Sandy and Snowbird. The shuttle allows visitors to enjoy a scenic drive through Little Cottonwood Canyon without driving, avoid parking congestion, and reduce overall traffic on SR-210.

Reservations are required, and shuttle capacity can fill quickly, so visitors are encouraged to book in advance. Once onboard, riders can enjoy a direct trip to the resort and skip looking for parking.

Shuttle Schedule

The free shuttle isn’t just a convenient way to avoid traffic and parking—it also helps reduce the number of vehicles traveling through Little Cottonwood Canyon. If you plan to enjoy Oktoberfest’s beer garden, leave the driving to someone else by riding the shuttle.

The free shuttle operates Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day, August 8 through October 11, 2026.

• To Snowbird: Every 80 minutes beginning at 12 p.m.
• Return to Sandy: Every 80 minutes beginning at 4 p.m.

Additional departure times may be added based on rider demand.

Shuttle Guidelines

Please leave the following items at home before boarding the shuttle:

• Outside food or beverages
• Outside alcohol
• Weapons
• Pets

Please Note: These items are not permitted on the shuttle or inside the Oktoberfest event. Smoking is prohibited within the festival grounds, and all bags are subject to search upon arrival.

Parking in Little Cottonwood Canyon

If you choose to drive, arrive early. Parking at Snowbird fills quickly during Oktoberfest weekends, and traffic delays increase as more visitors arrive and leave the festival.

Where can I park at Snowbird?

Due to the popularity of Oktoberfest and limited parking at the resort, travelers are encouraged to carpool or ride the free Oktoberfest shuttle.

Snowbird offers parking in lots accessed through Entries 1, 2 and 4 for $15 per vehicle during Oktoberfest event days while spaces remain available. Valet parking at the Snowbird Center via Entry 2 is available for $30 per vehicle, and there is no Oktoberfest parking at Entry 3.

Parking fees must be paid by credit or debit card only. Mobile payment options are not accepted.

If Snowbird Parking Is Full, Where Else Can I Park?

Additional roadside parking may be available in designated areas of Little Cottonwood Canyon where signs indicate “Parking Allowed.” Highway parking near Snowbird may also be available when open, but parking is not allowed below Entry 1. 

Always follow posted signage and park only where allowed. Visitors using roadside parking may need to walk along or cross SR-210 to reach the festival.

How Do I Park Safely?

When parking along the roadside, your entire vehicle must be parked to the right of the white line. Vehicles extending into the travel lane create safety hazards, restrict emergency access, and may result in a citation or towing.

Always park only in designated parking areas and never block travel lanes, driveways, or emergency access points.

Please slow down, stay alert, and watch for pedestrians near designated parking areas, especially as people arrive and leave throughout the day.

Plan Ahead to Enjoy Your Day

A little planning helps make summer in the canyon more enjoyable for everyone. Preparing in advance, allowing extra travel time, and following parking regulations will help keep traffic moving safely so all visitors can enjoy their time in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

👉Event Parking: Entry gates are card-only. Snowbird charges a $15 parking fee in its main event lots (Entries 1, 2, and 4) and $30 for valet during Oktoberfest weekends. Free shoulder parking along SR-210 fills up early.

👉Rideshares: Expect delays or surge pricing when trying to order an Uber or Lyft down canyon late in the afternoon. Spotty cell service and driver availability in the canyon can leave you without a ride home if you don’t plan ahead.

👉Carpool: Snowbird offers rewards for filling your vehicle. Scan the carpool QR code in the Snowbird App when you arrive with a full car for things like free swag and dining discounts at the resort.

👉Be Safe: If you plan to drink, lock in a designated driver, ride the free shuttle, or book a room at the resort rather than driving. Zero Fatalities is a goal we can all live with.
